PLANKTON MANIFESTO Menorca
Plankton Manifesto Menorca will take place on
August 27th 8pm at P•Lab in Sa Mesquida.
Exhibition, outdoor installations, art, science and music acts, Sail Gin Bar
PLANKTON MANIFESTO is a collaborative and future-oriented movement based on art, creativity, and empathy.
International collaborations among many artists, individuals and companies will manifest artistic and intellectual exchanges in an artistic lab. PLANKTON MANIFESTO creates a myriad of unique possibilities to join forces with many different professionals: visual artists, musicians, designers, architects, fishermen, nutritionists, marine biologists, scientists, and many other.
Creators from all around the world manifest their dreams through their knowledge, expertise, and experience sharing the vision and mission to preserve underwater life.
The Manifesto celebrates Plankton.
These drifting creatures sustain ocean ecosystems, serving as the basis of the marine food chain and produce a similar amount of oxygen as all of the world’s forests combined. Also, they influence carbon export to deeper ocean waters through many-fold ecological and physical processes..
PLANKTON MANIFESTO generates awareness and brings together ideas, senses, shapes, and sounds through art installations, performances, concerts, science projects, conferences, panel discussions, educational workshops, gastronomy and fashion.
PLANKTON MANIFESTO draws attention to the invisible, threatened underwater world, breaks the conventional boundaries of art and science and makes this project a universal cause.
In addition to the artistic mission, PLANKTON MANIFESTO also fulfills an important task in the context of the
17 UN Sustainability Goals, specifically in the context of Goal #14 “Life Below Water”.
What is your dream to manifest?
Let’s drift collectively.

Drawn with charcoal pencils from various charred woods on Japanese paper. Each line is passed over the cuts of building boards and thus joined together to form these stars-micados.
“My drawings and paintings involved painstaking studies of plants and trees. These shots of the falls are a gift to me: The Star Taler girl holds open her shift and all the stars fall right in” quotes t Barbara Heé in the book WATERS.
La Lupa’s powerful natural voice fills every room without a microphone until the souls vibrate.
Plankton and plastic floating forest
June 23rd, 2021 | 14:00-17:00 Workshop for children 6 - 12 years old
Creation of a site-specific installation in collaborative action to sensitize new generations on the theme of oceanic plastics by Andrea Liberni.
The project aims to raise awareness among children and adults, on the subject of plankton fragility and its close link with human activities. It consists of creating a plankton cloud hanging from the ceiling in front of the dark blue curved wall of the exhibition space - a cloud composed of hundreds of small semi-transparent paper sculptures "pseudo jellyfish", created by the participants. The collective work of art will generate a dialogue for the participants, artists and visitors, on the environmental theme that will contribute to increasing the sense of responsibility and attention on this topic.

Mare Incognitum – plankton in a sea of change
Science Pitch by Meike Vogt, Fabio Benedetti, Urs Hofmann Elizondo; ETH Zurich
June 30th, 2021 | 18:30 Meike Vogt "The air that we breathe: Die Rolle von Plankton im Klimasystem" 19:00 Urs Hofmann Elizondo "Ozeanlandschaften im Wandel der Jahreszeiten" | 19:30 Fabio Benedetti "Through the looking glass: The magical diversity of marine fauna"
Marine plankton form the base of the marine food-chain and mediate important biogeochemical cycles on planet Earth. Yet, this diverse group of organisms remains poorly understood. In a series of short pop-up talks, three marine scientists will take you on a journey into the fantastic world of plankton, and introduce you to their resourcefulness, diversity, and ethereal beauty. We will highlight differences between marine and terrestrial ecosystems, explore the role of plankton in the uptake of anthropogenic carbon, and illuminate knowns and unknowns with regard to their response to global climate change. See marine ecosystems through a scientist’s passionate eye, and discover fun facts about that 71% of the Earth’s surface that we know so little about.

UNICORN OF THE SEAS at riverside at the Limmat, Zinnengasse Zürich
Performance: Victorine Müller, Light: Simon Egli, Poetic contribution SILENZI ALLA AUA: Davina Andrea Deplazes
The narwhal, the mythical unicorn of the seas, is one of the endangered species.
Ten million tiny nerve connections link the central nerve of its very special tusk with its surface and turn the outgrowth into a sensitive sensor. Although apparently hard and massive, the tusk works like a membrane with a tender surface that can register changes in water temperature and pressure and the concentration of chemical substances. What a wonderful creature!
Ungemaltes oder die Reise ins gnadenlose Licht
July 3rd, 2021 | 18:00-20:00
Al Meier will present "Unpainted or the journey into the merciless light". The artist is present and reads poetic texts from his book
Art is the lived response to the search for the true and the beautiful.... I am a performing philosopher and poet. My 40 years of work are characterized by the search for the valid in art, beyond fashions and trends. Across media, the artistic questions always find new content and forms of expression. Formal reductions to the essential reflect and characterize my drawings, objects, paintings and photographs. Constructive concrete elements are mostly in dialogue with organic lines. It is in this interplay of intellect and intuition that the new forms of expression are found. In this intermediate realm of suggestion, simplicity and clarity, my works question and illuminate the timeless, existential questions of our existence.
A by ssal M o tio n chant d’or – cri cyan
July 5th, 2021 | 20:00 music performance
Sándor Bajnai (keys) & Chrigu Gerber (cello)
chant d’or – cri cyan is a duet of church musicians usually playing the organ and singing, or entertaining people of all ages with beautiful music of different styles.
What’s life, what’s just biochemical process?
It works as long you don’t ask by laws of saturation and reactions – longing, greed and decay. Those silly simple little movements that build our worlds and finally destroy them to create new ones. Who moves, who is moved? We follow the waves of lust across Kitsch and acoustic research, blossom and rottenness.

Art Installation by huber.huber
Artist duo huber.huber have created an installation from elements of three installations on the subject of water and expansive installation. Sound from the video “Land of Plenty” by Michael Bucher, dive into installation H20 with a sip of sake and a bowl of miso soup.
The subtle scent of fish and seaweed of the miso soup mixes with the scent of summer rain on hot asphalt. Fine wisps of mist creep along the ground. The sounds of the electric guitar (Michael Bucher) mixed with the sound of water to form a sound carpet.

Current research focuses on planktonic snails because these are sensitive indicators of the impacts of global change. Besides playing key roles in the oceanic food chain and the global carbon cycle, planktonic snails are mesmerizing creatures speaking to the hearts of people. By teaming up with Studio de Maan, they produced videos to communicate research findings as well as their beauty, in the hope to inspire people to take better care of our planet.
